The European Board of Thoracic Surgery (EBTS) and the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EBCTS) have joined forces.

As of 2025 both the Part 1 (written - MCQ's) and Part 2 (oral - OSCE) Board exams are now being organized by the Unified Board of Thoracic Surgery (UEBTS) under the umbrella of the UEMS Section of Thoracic Surgery.

Exams organized by UEBTS are being supported by the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) and the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
